If the phrase “honesty is the best policy” were to apply to a singer, Ben Gibbard would be that singer. It’s no secret that I love imagery in songs, and this particular song is perfect in the sense that you can truly imagine and feel what frontman Ben Gibbard is singing about. It’s a very beautiful, moody piano driven track that really captures the essence of a certain moment in time. However, when I first heard this track I immediately loved it. Over the last few years I've heard a lot of Ben Gibbard music, and there are a lot of songs that make me think of my husband, and some of the music even seemed to follow the events of our lives.Coming into this review, I had little listening time with Death Cab for Cutie’s earlier body of work. He'd said it to me a few days before that, and I wasn't ready to say it back, but that night I did. I remember looking out the window and thinking that I did really love him. we'd gone to an amusement park together, and on the way home, late at night, he took a country road instead of the highway. It instantly reminded me of one of the first dates I had with my husband. By chance I googled, "romantic Death Cab songs" and this one came up. We were talking about songs that might be good as our first dance, because at the time we didn't really have a song that was "ours". I literally had been listening to them for about two weeks and all I had was I Will Possess and I Will Follow. When we were trying to decide on our wedding playlist, I was just getting into Death Cab. This song was my first dance at my wedding with my husband, and the first Death Cab (out of many!) that reminded me of him. Lastly, we tested range performance by standing at an outdoor marker 150 feet away from the home to check for signal strength and speeds. We used Ooklas SpeedTest app for iPhone to measure the average network download and upload speeds in Mbps across three marked points on each level. To get a realistic baseline of speeds while in use, we measured while simultaneously streaming a 4K movie to a 65-inch TV and running a Microsoft Teams video call on a laptop. We also placed the main router and satellite of each system in the same spot. To ensure each system was tested under equal conditions, we set down floor markers for our tester to stand on while gathering speed readings from the same distance. This consisted of: a third-floor loft (where we put the modem and base router), a second-story living room (the location of second satellite), and a ground-level garage just below the secondary node separated by multiple walls and sub flooring. Once our units arrived, we tested each system in a multi-level 1,400-square-foot home. We called in the most promising mesh Wi-Fi systems based on prior experience testing older devices in their lineup, customer reviews (verified by Fakespot), and their speed ratings. Keep in mind that your internet service and the age of your devices can also factor into which system will work best for you-particularly if you’re looking at ones with next-gen Wi-Fi 6E technology. Other influencing factors may include whether you’re tied to a particular smart-home ecosystem and if your setup requires multiple ethernet ports. ![]() Speaking of added resistance, keep your nodes away from electronics, as even appliances like fridges and microwaves can create a strong interference. Confined spaces are a no go, as they further block signals that need to be powerful enough to reach through walls and ceilings. Try to keep your hubs placed high in an open area with less than two walls between each node if possible. Placement is king when it comes to the performance of mesh Wi-Fi systems. These will still push those smaller plans to the limit without being overkill. But for homes with speeds of 500 Mbps or less, you can look at systems as low as AC1200. If you have a gigabit plan, you’ll want a higher-end network rated for theoretical bandwidth speeds of AC2300 or above. While a pricey top performer may reach gigabit speeds, that doesn’t matter much for homes thats speeds are capped below 1,000 megabits per second (Mbps), which are unable to take advantage of it. Best Mesh Wi-Fi Systemsīefore deciding on a mesh Wi-Fi system, you should take your internet plan’s speeds into account. Whether you need something compact and attractive for your apartment or have a multilevel house that requires more expansive coverage, here are the best mesh Wi-Fi systems. ![]() And with equal bandwidth distribution, you can cut down on network outages and choppy performance. You can expect the same fast speeds throughout your property-be it the corner of that upstairs bedroom or your office on the far side of the house. There are several benefits to upgrading to a mesh network if you’re eking by with a single-router setup. While its possible to extend your existing router’s coverage with a Wi-Fi extender, this works by repeating signals which jams up the network, lowers speeds, and leaves gaps in service. Not only does this maximize coverage but speed performance as well, since it directs connected gadgets to the closest node to avoid congestion. Each of these hubs output strong wireless signals that overlap to form a single, seamless network. ![]() This arrangement consists of a base router with multiple satellites placed throughout your home. Between a new generation of Wi-Fi technology and this holiday season’s sales, now is a great time to invest in a mesh Wi-Fi system. ![]() And for that, a single router isn’t going to cut it-especially in a household where multiple devices are running demanding network activities like these simultaneously. You’ll need a strong Wi-Fi network to smoothly stream 4K video or play the latest online games without any interruptions. ![]() ![]() ![]() Great for Debugging, Productivity, Most Features/Functions, Very Intuitive, Well Built, And Smooth Performance. ![]() ![]() NBC, CBS, ABC and their boob-tube competitors have over the years taken in billions of dollars from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and others to run TV ads that essentially tell TV viewers to stop watching TV, and start watching a streaming-video selection. Still, he adds, sticking to that policy “is going to get complicated.” God forbid you want to give anybody the hint of a suggestion that there might be another show in some other streaming universe,” says Tim Hanlon, who advises media and marketing companies as CEO of The Vertere Group. “If anybody is going to promote programming, it should be for their own resources and their own familes of studios and channels. The catch? The ads ran during “E.R,” which was broadcast at the same time as new episodes of “Trace” on rival CBS.īut such efforts may not be sustainable in TV’s new world. NBC’s TV stations yanked an ad out of rotation that told viewers they should watch reruns of the missing-persons drams “Without A Trace” on TNT. In 1997, actor Dennis Franz played a surly cop in a spot for General Motors’ Cadillac - much like the one he depicted at the time on ABC’s “NYPD Blue.” The disposition of the commercial character was so similar to the one in the police drama that NBC and CBS refused to run the ad. For years, TV networks like ABC, CBS and NBC got nervous about running commercials that touted their rivals’ wares. The media companies appear to be ripping a page from old playbooks. Running ads for opponents only complicates those efforts. Paramount, Disney, Warner, Fox and NBCUniversal are under tremendous pressure to demonstrate not only subscriber growth, but an increase in hours spent with their individual services. In an era when media companies are frantically working to sign new subscribers, an ad for an adversarial streaming service, so the thinking goes, is tantamount to giving them a reason to exit. A spokesperson for Fox’s Tubi declined to respond to a query seeking information about that streamer’s policies regarding ads from broadband opponents. Discovery decllined to make executives available for comment. Netflix, Amazon, NBCUniversal, Paramount Global, Walt Disney and Warner Bros. NBCU’s Peacock will take ads from rivals, and so will Amazon’s Freevee, according to people familiar with those companies’ policies. And Paramount+, part of Paramount Global, tends to accept ads only from streaming competitors with whom the company might already do business, according to a person familiar with the situation. Netflix, Max and Disney’s Hulu and Disney+ do not accept ads that tout rival streaming services or the shows that run on them, according to executives familiar with the policies. But they aren’t hungry enough, it seems, to accept advertising that might tout a piece of content available on a rival service. Many of the companies that own streaming services have shown a new appetite for advertising. ![]() |
